Kean University will have an early dismissal at 1 p.m. today, July 31, per Governor Murphy’s early closure for state offices due to the flood watch issued in areas throughout New Jersey. 

Classes scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. or later will be conducted remotely. 

All administrative offices and services on Kean’s main campus in Union, Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands will close at 1 p.m. Employees working on campus as well as those working remotely may end their workday at that time.  

Only essential personnel should report to work after 1 p.m. Employees with questions about their status should consult their supervisor. 

Keanu’s Kitchen will remain open for lunch until 1:30 p.m. Dinner service will run from 5:30-7 p.m. Starbucks, Cougars Den and Outtakes will close at 1 p.m. 

Michael Graves College Lecture Series Continues With Ayse Birsel

The Michael Graves College lecture series will feature Ayse Birsel, co-founder and creative director of the award-winning design and innovation studio Birsel+Seck, on Wednesday, February 22 at 5 p.m. in GLAB rm 617.

Birsel is the creator of Design the Life You Love, a book and curriculum that teaches non-designers how to create a meaningful life using her design process, Deconstruction:Reconstruction™, and its tools.

Ayse Birsel is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2001 Young Designers Award from the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Athena Award for Excellence in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Born in Izmir, Turkey, Birsel came to the U.S. in 1986 to attend Pratt Institute on a Fulbright Scholarship. She resides in New York City with her husband and partner, Bibi Seck, and their three children, who continue to inspire her designs.
