Kean University

Sports Communication and Careers Panel

Kean University’s Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter will host a Sports Communication and Careers panel discussion on Tuesday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. in CAS room 106.

Panelists include Al Dukes, Chris Brienza, George Falkowski and Jerry Barca. Dukes, a Kean alumnus and the producer of WFAN’s The Boomer and Carton Show, will explain his path to success in broadcasting. The panelists will also discuss other careers for communication grads including production, public relations and journalism.

“I want this panel to reach other majors outside of communication,” said Michael Canova, President of Kean University’s PRSSA. “In addition to helping clear up any questions about what a communication degree can do for us, we want to help peak the interest of athletes and undecided majors who may want to stay in the sports field and provide them with a possible outlet.”

Chris Brienza oversees CoynePR’s sports and media practice areas. He has worked for 15 years in professional sports at both the league and team levels. He has held director and vice president roles for the National Basketball Association and New York Knicks franchise.

Jerry Barca is an adjunct professor at Kean, and has produced an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary. His writing has been published in the New York Times, Forbes, SI.com, and ESPN.com. He is also the author of two sports books.

George Falkowski is an adjunct professor at Kean, and is a 4-time NY Emmy Award winner. He has spent more than 30 years in sports and news television. He was the features producer for the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins broadcasts and a sports reporter for News 12 New Jersey.

The event is free and open to all Kean students, faculty, and alumni. Pre-registration is required.  Click here for more information.
