A Vibrant Bounty of Chinese Folk Art at Kean University Gallery

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Karl and Helen Burger Gallery at Kean University with the exhibition, Vibrant Bounty: Chinese Folk Art of the Shaanxi Region. The exhibition kicks off with a gallery reception on Thursday, February 15 – the day before the Year of the Dog begins – from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Admission to the gallery and reception are free and open to the public.

“With our Wenzhou-Kean University campus in China, Kean is no stranger to the rich and profound Chinese culture,” said University President Dawood Farahi. “This exhibit is an opportunity for all students to become better acquainted with one of the earliest ancient civilizations through art, as well as for students from China who are studying on the Union campus, to experience traditional folk art.”

Vibrant Bounty invites visitors on a journey through Shaanxi Province, one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. The pieces of work on display are accompanied by artifacts of rural China that reveal a national spirit. The artwork celebrates the unity of farmers living in the immensity of nature, and draws connections that unite us in our shared humanity.

"This is a great opportunity for the campus and local communities to celebrate Chinese culture, with a museum quality exhibition of folk art, right here in Union,” said Neil Tetkowski, director of Kean University Galleries.

Kean Galleries is collaborating with the Office of Student Organization to bring this and other cultural events to campus.

Vibrant Bounty: Chinese Folk Art of the Shaanxi Region will be on display until Friday, March 16. The Karl and Helen Burger Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
