GE Implementation Committee FAQ
What is the GEIC?
GEIC is the GE Implementation Committee tasked with implementing the new program for a start date of Fall 2026. This includes addressing issues related to modalities, technology, admissions, and new student orientation as well as defining each Program Learning Outcome and creating the Inquiry and Analysis Passion Project course.
Who is on the GEIC?
The GEIC is comprised of faculty and staff volunteers from areas across campus.
Are current GE Distribution courses included in the new GE?
We have set up an interim process whereby most current GE courses are included in the new GE and assigned under the new PLOs based on feedback from departments. A listing of where each current GE courses falls under the new PLO model should be available by early April 2026.
What are the definitions of each of the new PLOs?
GEIC working group members will be charged with developing those definitions and associated elements that categorize a course as fulfilling a particular PLO. The AAC&U VALUE rubrics will be useful tools for faculty doing this work.
Where is the list of GE courses that fulfill each PLO?
This list is not available yet because departments and programs are in the process of identifying which courses should be associated with which PLO on an interim basis. A listing of where each current GE course falls under the new PLO model should be available by early April 2026.
When I upload my new program to the CMS the old GE populates, not the new one. Should I wait for the new one to populate prior to submitting the revised Program documents to the CMS?
No. Please do not wait or be concerned about the GE requirement information currently being pulled from the existing catalog (with the "old" GE) in CMS. The new GE requirements and program changes will be updated in the 2026-2027 undergraduate catalog using the new guide sheet.
The CMS templates will be updated to reflect the new GE requirements for future submissions of new programs. For future program revisions, the GE requirements will be pulled directly from the 2026-2027 undergraduate catalog.
Can we create new courses for the new GE?
New courses can be created once the new PLOs are defined.
My College/Program does not offer any GE courses, do I need to do anything with the new PLOs?
No. If you do not have any courses under the current GE Program, you do not need to address anything regarding the new GE and PLOs as part of the interim process.
I am revising my program with the new curriculum sheet template and I see that the courses fulfilling each PLO are not listed for all GE Program Learning Outcomes. Where can I get that list?
Please note that the new curriculum sheet template does not list all courses under each PLO as the previous curriculum sheets did. The GE Program will post the list of which courses fulfill each PLO by early April. This new template will allow for greater flexibility in adding or removing GE courses over the long term.
Should the senior Capstone courses appear on the GE side or Program side of the curriculum sheet?
Capstone courses should appear on the right-hand side of the curriculum sheet as major requirements.
How does accreditation affect the new GE curriculum?
If your program requires an adjustment in the new GE curriculum, please provide a link to the accrediting body’s official language that documents the encumbrance necessitating the adjustment. This information should be referenced on the curriculum sheet.
