Academic Technology
Advise
The Office of Student Success and Retention continues to provide the campus community with the tools needed to support student success. We are encouraging all faculty and staff to use Ellucian CRM Advise to access need-to-know student information, enter advisement notes, refer students to remote support services, and maintain open communication channels through intentionally designed outreach efforts. As a cloud-based tool, Advise is accessible from any device using your Kean email and password.

The Cougar Climb
First-Year Experience
The Cougar Climb First-Year Experience is a co-curricular path that's designed to promote active student engagement with the ultimate goal of timely graduation and a successful career. Launched in 2019, this unique achievement challenge consists of 6 domains:
- Academic
- Social
- Health & Wellness
- Career Development
- Civic Engagement
- Social Engagement
Students are able to complete tasks, monitor progress and set co-curricular goals related to each domain. The pathway assists students by tracking their progress as they move through each domain to Cougar Climb completion. The program is designed for all students and can be tailored to fit specific involvement needs and aspirations.
Upperclassman Experience
The Cougar Climb Upperclassman Experience, launched in Fall of 2020, is not just a continuation of the First-Year Experience, but also, an opportunity for students to dive deeper into further developing their leadership skills and solidifying career interests, resulting in a stronger personal and professional self.
Students who climb highest in the Cougar Climb First-Year and Upperclassman Experiences will be entered to win a semester of school, TUITION FREE! For additional information click HERE.
For additional questions, please reach out to Gilly Scott (gscott@kean.edu) or Jonathan Lopez (ljonatha@kean.edu).
Student Retention Suite (CSI/MYSA/SYSA)
The Student Retention Suite (SRS) consists of the College Student Inventory (CSI), Mid-Year Student Assessment (MYSA), and Second-Year Student Assessment (SYSA). Administered in the fall semester, these non-cognitive assessments allow faculty, staff and administrators with an opportunity to directly connect students to support services to support student success. For example, if a student indicates that they are interested in studying abroad, exploring majors, or learning more about financial aid, we can connect them to the appropriate person to assist them in finding answers and receiving support.
Students engage with their CSI and MYSA results in their GE-1000 (Transition to Kean T2K) and their SYSA results in GE-3000, reflecting on their past experiences and setting SMART Goals for their first year at Kean and beyond. Please find a list of the Top 10 Indicators for the FA20 College Student Inventory listed below.
