RAVE Mobile Safety Alerts and App
Kean University utilizes RAVE Mobile Safety, a leader in mass notification and incident management, to communicate emergencies and share critical information and alerts to the campus community. This includes alerts for potential security-related incidents, power outages, IT service disruptions, weather-related closures, shifts to remote operations and other critical advisories. Notifications are sent as text messages and emailed to your @kean.edu account. Depending on the nature of the alert, you may also receive a voicemail and/or see posts on Kean University's social media channels.
Students are automatically registered through the contact information included in KeanWise. Faculty and Staff are automatically registered through the contact information in Workday.
NOTE: We encourage all members of the Kean University community to enter a mobile phone number in their personal records. Faculty and staff should review their Workday profile and Home Contact section. Ensure that a mobile device (personal or work cellphone) is entered as the primary phone number in the Home Contact Information. A landline can be added as a secondary phone.
All members of the Kean University community are encouraged to download the RAVE Guardian App to access important information and safety resources. The platform is maintained by the Office of Information Technology (IT), and operated by the University Police and University Relations. If you have any questions about RAVE Alerts, please contact the IT Help Desk at (908) 737-6000.
Personal Security Escorts
The Department of Public Safety/Police offers a walking Safety Escort program to anyone (students, employees or visitors) on Kean University property.
A Safety Escort may be requested at any time while on campus by calling our Communications Center at x74800. Escorts are provided on a first come, first serve basis and are also prioritized amongst other calls for service at any given time. Escorts may be conducted by a Security Officer, or a University Police Officer, depending upon availability and staffing levels. The response time for a Safety Escort request may be up to fifteen (15) minutes, or longer if our officers are dealing with an emergency situation. Please plan your request for this service accordingly. It is best to wait for a Safety Escort in a public, well lit area.
Blue Light Emergency Phones
Blue Light telephones have been strategically placed at 27 outdoor locations throughout the campus. Use them for non-emergency and emergency situations.
- For non-emergencies, use the key pad to dial five-digit on-campus telephone numbers (example: 74800 for Department of Public Safety).
- For emergencies, push the red button.
The number for our 24-hour Communications Center is x74800, or (908) 737-4800 from a cellular or off-campus phone. Free on-campus telephones are located in the lobbies and corridors of most campus buildings.
All members of the Kean University community are urged to save our phone number as a cellphone contact for reporting emergencies or other incidents on campus property, as cellular 911 calls may not route directly to our Communications Center depending upon the location the call is placed from.
