Kean Quad Makeover Contest

The Quad residents have the opportunity to enter the Quad Makeover Contest. The grand prize winner receives a FREE semester of housing in the Quad (Bartlett, Burch, Rogers & Sozio). Video Submission Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2024, by 11:59 p.m. ET.

To Enter: Step 1

Talk to your suitemates, and make sure you all agree to participate in the contest.

Step 2:

Make a one-minute video with at least two suitemates answering the two questions.

Step 3:

Upload your video and fill out the entry form for your suite to be entered into the contest.

Timeline

Open to all current Fall 2024 residential students living in the Quad (Bartlett, Burch, Rogers & Sozio).

  • Friday, September 20: Residence hall suite video entries are due
  • Monday, September 30: Finalists (one for each quad building) are announced
  • Monday, September 30 – Friday, October 11: Residence hall suites redesign their suite
  • Monday, October 28 – Monday, November 11: Residence hall suites makeover and set up their suite
  • Tuesday, November 12: Judges review final designs
  • Friday, November 15: Design contest winner is announced

Submit Entry for Quad Makeover Contest

Contest Details:

  1. Submit a one (1) minute video entry to nominate your suite to represent your residence hall for the contest. At least two suitemates must be featured in the video answering the following questions:
    1. What do you want to change about your room?
    2. Why should your suite be picked for the contest?
  2. Kean Staff will vote on one (1) entry per resident hall to participate in the room design contest.
  3. The selected suite representing each resident hall will be announced to participate in the room design contest. Each suite will have a $500.00 budget to makeover their suite, including both bedrooms, living room, and common areas. The items from the budget will be submitted to be verified and items purchased by the Division of Student Affairs.
  4. Each resident hall suite will have two (2) weeks to design their room and submit their line item budget to receive the $500.00 for the contest, along with photos of the original room design. Then, each suite will have two (2) weeks to set up their suite.
  5. Each resident hall suite will be responsible for documenting their process (photographs and video) to select items for the budget, room design and setup to submit a final no more than two (2) minute video of the final room design.
  6. Each resident hall suite will be judged by designated professional staff and interior design experts to determine the winner.
  7. One suite will be selected as the winner of the design contest and will receive one semester of housing expenses for the Spring 2025 semester only. The contest does not include the cost of meal plan/Cougar Dollars, and you must reside in the Quad (Sozio, Rogers, Burch, and Bartlett) during the Spring 2025 semester for the housing credit. The housing credit is nontransferable and cannot be used for any other purposes, nor will a cash refund be given.

Contest Rules:

  1. Open to all current Fall 2024 residential students living in the Quad (Sozio, Rogers, Burch and Bartlett)
  2. All four (4) suitemates must agree to participate in the contest and sign a consent form for Kean University to film and any footage to be used for promotion/marketing of the University.
  3. Each resident hall suite is required to submit photos and videos documenting the selection of items for the budget, room design, and setup process to create content throughout the contest.
  4. Each resident hall suite can only change out items within their room during the contest from items purchased within the $500.00 budget. Items can be purchased to include DIY projects. Donations and in-kind offerings are prohibited from being used for changes apart from the contest. If found, the resident hall suite will be subject to disqualification from the contest.
  5. Each resident hall suite will be given a $500.00 budget towards items for their room, the budget form will be submitted to be verified, and items will be purchased by the Division of Student Affairs. You will be given up to a $5.00 threshold to go over budget before you are disqualified from the contest.
  6. All changes to the resident hall suite must comply with guidelines within the Resident Student Handbook (updated August 2024).
  7. All four (4) suitemates will receive a credit applied to their Kean University student account in the amount of one (1) semester cost of housing for the upcoming Spring 2025 semester only. The housing credit is nontransferable and cannot be used for any other purposes, nor will a cash refund be given.
