Readmitted Student Advising
Students who are readmitted to Kean University after stopping out, a leave of absence or academic dismissal are required to meet with an academic advisor prior to registering for courses. Advising for readmitted students is based on the number of credits earned and their declared major:
- Students with 0–59 credits are typically advised by the Center for Advising, Persistence and Success (CAPS). Except for students in the School of Integrated Science and Technology (SIST), the College of Education and majors in Environmental Science, Theatre, and Music.
- Students with 60 or more credits are advised by faculty members within their academic department.
- Students in specialized programs (e.g. EOF, BTS, Veterans, Kean Online, and Supera) are advised by their program-specific advisors, regardless of credit count.
Advisors will assist readmitted students in understanding degree requirements, planning an appropriate schedule, and addressing any changes to curriculum or policies that may have occurred during their time away.
To schedule an advising appointment, readmitted students must first confirm their re-enrollment and follow the next steps outlined in their readmission notification.
It is suggested that all appointments be booked 24-48 hours in advance.
How to Prepare for an Academic Advising session with CAPS?
During your appointment, your CAPS Advisor will go over degree requirements, your academic course map, as well as discuss major/minor requirements. To ensure that your advising session is productive, here are a few things you’ll need to do before your appointment:
- Review your Course Map in Student Planner prior to your meeting
- Define 1-2 academic goals that you have for the upcoming semester
- Seek guidance on co-curricular activities that Kean has to offer such as internships and leadership development opportunities
- Bring any questions or concerns to your meeting
