The Betty C. Elrod Cobb `75 Center for Early Childhood Education is dedicated to the physical and emotional well-being and cognitive and social development of preschool children ages two and a half to five years old. The Center opened its doors in the mid-1970s and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Located in a secure and beautiful facility in the heart of Kean's Union campus, the Center provides a safe and nurturing environment where young children can thrive. Within bright, open-plan classrooms and a spacious private playground, preschoolers explore many early learning activities in math, science and literacy to various creative arts and free play.
Offering high-quality, affordable and innovative child care, the center is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, where an engaging environment is key and the curriculum is directed by each child's emerging interests. The children develop their natural curiosity in a collaborative setting where their explorations are closely observed and documented by teachers and shared with parents. The overarching goal is that teachers and parents will be partners in the child's learning process.
The Center is an integral part of the Kean community and is connected to the University's world-class College of Education programs. As such, the Center offers employment and internship opportunities to advanced students and certified teachers.
Hours of Operation
The Center is open from 7:45 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters; Summer hours are determined each spring. Evening care hours are 4:15 – 7:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during Fall and Spring semesters only. The full day program is open year-round to preschool aged children (up to five years old) and the aftercare program is open to school-age children (up to 12 years old).
