Overview

Kean.edu is built on the Drupal content management system. The site features a versatile component library of design elements that can be combined to create functional and attractive designs.

All Kean.edu content pages must adhere to Kean’s brand and editorial style guidelines. Webpages should consist of existing site components. Prior to initiating a new web project, departments should develop a content outline and draft text for any new pages. New projects must be developed in collaboration with The Office of University Relations (UR) and should be reviewed and approved by UR staff prior to publication. Individual departments are responsible for maintaining their webpages.

If you are an authorized web content editor, please ensure that any new content you create is approved by your supervisor and developed in collaboration with your departmental leadership. All Kean.edu web content that does not meet our guidelines is subject to revision and/or removal by UR staff.

Body copy on Kean.edu uses the Barlow Sans Serif font. Headings and main navigation are rendered in the Oswald typeface. If your department creates infographics, icons, or other images for publication on Kean.edu, the following web colors can be used:

Content Best Practices

  • All Kean webpages must adhere to the University's editorial style guidelines and branding guidelines.

  • Webpages should feature high-quality content, including images and multimedia, to create an engaging user experience. (Do not create pages without content and avoid publishing webpages with only one sentence or a brief paragraph.)

  • Consolidate content where possible and eliminate redundancies. Link to existing pages instead of recreating similar content to reduce maintenance and improve navigation.

  • Review pages each semester to ensure contact information is accurate and content is current. Regularly update important dates, deadlines, program details and event info. Remove outdated content and past events promptly.

  • Include popular search terms and keywords in your content, page titles, headers and meta-descriptions, to optimize for SEO.

  • Provide descriptive alt text for all images.

  • Write clearly and concisely. Use plain language and avoid jargon. Prioritize readability for all audiences and reading levels.

  • Use bullet points, short paragraphs, subheadings and bolded keywords to make content easy to scan.
