In 2009, Premiere Stages produced the first Actor's showcase in New York City. Since then, typically on a biennial basis, the Kean Department of Theatre partners with Premiere Stages, Kean University's professional Equity theatre-in-residence, to produce the Kean Actor's Showcase. During Covid, the first filmed showcase was produced, and the Department and Premiere have been continuing with a mix of filmed and live showcases since to give our actors the widest industry reach. Agents, casting directors, and artistic directors from New York and New Jersey frequently view the Showcase and numerous students have solidified valuable contacts and partnerships as a result.
The New Jersey Theatre Alliance also holds their annual combined auditions on the campus of Kean University each spring. Hosted by Premiere Stages, casting representatives from 30 professional theatres across the state attend the auditions. Kean University students are guaranteed audition slots without having to go through a competitive lottery process.
