Jyoti Gupta Colorism Conversations

Time: 3:30 p.m. Location: Miron Student Center (MSC) 226

Organizations today are challenging and changing systems and practices that place value on people based on their race and skin color. What do we know about and how can we recognize historically-practiced everyday biases rooted in skin color discrimination? In this workshop led by media and racial literacy educator Jyoti Gupta, we will examine the complexities of our identities that play an important part in our social relations and life experiences. We will watch entertaining media clips, interact, and workshop together to center our stories and together find pathways to the much-needed inner work. Ultimately, the aim is to learn to locate and resolve everyday conflicts, dismantle systemic colorism, and bring home the message of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
