EduMed.org, a leading resource for students interested in medical and healthcare professions, has ranked Kean University No. 5 on its list of the “Best Online Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology for 2023.” The online program was selected for its winning combination of affordability, student support and academic rigor.

It is the latest recognition for Kean Online, which is also ranked among the best in the nation for online education by Newsweek and No. 2 in New Jersey for Best Online Colleges by Value Colleges.

“This is one more example of how Cougars climb higher,” said Kean President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. “This top ranking is a result of the hard work of Kean Online faculty and staff and their continued focus on offering innovative courses that meet high academic standards and fit our students’ busy schedules.”

The 2023 rankings by EduMed.org come at a time when the demand for trained healthcare professionals is on the rise. According to Mercer, a global consulting leader in health care, the U.S. will see millions of vacancies in critical healthcare positions by 2025.

“One key to solving the healthcare shortage is making higher education more accessible,” said Wes Harris, outreach coordinator for EduMed.org. “Online programs open the door to students who may not be able to commit to a campus-based program while working or to commute to a classroom at all. Each school in our rankings has made online learning a priority.”

“The ranking is a reflection of the importance we place on delivering affordable, high-quality programs,” said John F. O'Callaghan Jr., Kean University’s vice president of transformational learning and chief online officer. “Kean Online is helping students transform their lives with exceptional academic programs and the flexibility they need to pursue their goal of a college education.”

To compile the online education rankings, EduMed.org researched and analyzed more than 7,700 accredited schools using data from the schools and from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Their data science team then applied a proprietary algorithm to rank qualifying schools for each healthcare discipline. Only eight percent of U.S. postsecondary institutions earned a ranking position.

“Our rankings showcase the schools giving future nurses and allied health professionals the best chance to succeed from day one in the classroom to day one on the job,” Harris said.
