Surprises on Four Paws Greet Kean Child Care and Development Center Classes

Pittman and Wolfe speak to a hallway full of children from the Child Care Center.

Four new, furry additions were introduced to children in the Kean Child Care and Development Center preschool classes recently, during a visit by Kean University College of Education Dean Anthony Pittman, Ph.D., and Office of Accreditation and Assessment Director Karolina Wolfe.

Wolfe holds the hamsters in a box and has a cart next to her with the hamster supplies, as the children look on.

Students were told to close their eyes as Wolfe and Pittman wheeled in hamsters and supplies. The preschoolers were thrilled with their new pets.

Wolfe bends down to let a boy student look into the hamster box.

Pittman said the gift will help the children learn about responsibility. “We're hoping these young students are our future Kean graduates," said Pittman.

All that remained was for the new, furry residents of the child care center to swap their cardboard boxes for more permanent accommodations.

No word, as of press time, on the animals’ names.
