Detailed instructions for accessing Chalk & Wire, creating portfolios, and submitting portfolios to edTPA/Pearson is provided to Clinical Interns.

edTPA Materials

Clinical Interns will access subject specific edTPA materials through their secure Chalk & Wire Accounts. These are: edTPA Handbooks, edTPA URLP (Understanding Rubric Level Progressions), edTPA Academic Language Handouts and edTPA Templates. Instructions on how to access these materials and to complete your portfolio for submission will be shared during the beginning of semester edTPA workshop. Step by step instructions will also be available to Clinical Interns.

Students who are at an earlier level of their studies will receive edTPA materials through their instructors. Students should not share or duplicate materials.

Lesson Plan Template

The Kean University COE Lesson Plan Template is separate from the edTPA materials, it is available to students through their instructors. Clinical Interns can also access the COE Lesson Plan Template through Chalk & Wire.

edTPA Completion Timeline

Every semester Clinical Interns are provided a project timeline to complete the various parts of edTPA and submit their best quality work in a timely manner.  Kean students are required to submit a week before the national deadline for that period. This is so you can avoid last minute rush and you can upload your portfolio to the edTPA/Pearson website with ease.

Additional edTPA Resources

The following resources will help you make good choices as you develop artifacts and commentaries for your edTPA assessment. Your subject-specific handbook is essential, you should become very familiar with it.  The following supporting resources should not be substituted for the handbook. The document provides supplementary advice for completing specific components of edTPA as needed

Video Recording

Refer to your subject specific edTPA handbook for the video recording requirements. Your particular subject area video recording requirements can be different from your friend’s subject area. The handbook and the ‘evidence charts’ towards the end of your handbook should be your guide as to the content of each video, the number of video clips and the length of the clips. Some common requirements for all candidates are:

Video permission: This must be in place before you video record your lessons. The permission forms and video permission verification are available to interns Clinical Interns through Chalk & Wire. The Kean University edTPA Permission Form, listing the names of students must be completed and uploaded to Chalk & Wire. A delay in submitting this form will delay your certification application. To demonstrate that you are an ethically responsible professional you must submit the Kean University edTPA Permission Form before you record your students.

Videos must not be edited: All videos submitted to edTPA must be continuous. You can trim the video to meet the time limit requirements.

Video file size requirements: The target file size is 200–300 MB or less. The Pearson ePortfolio System file size limit is 500 MB. For example, if you are required to upload two videos for Task 2, both videos together must not be more than 500MB.
