Elementary Education Teacher Certification, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
Prepare to become a certified elementary educator through a flexible master’s program designed for career changers and aspiring teachers with a liberal arts or sciences background. Kean’s fully online* Elementary Education Teacher Certification, MAT combines academic preparation with classroom-based learning to help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for today's diverse elementary classrooms.
Through fieldwork and full-time student teaching opportunities, candidates learn to support learners from varied cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds while developing effective, responsive teaching practices.
Graduates who complete the certification portion of the program are eligible for the Elementary (K-6) Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) on a New Jersey instructional license. The 35-credit program also offers opportunities to pursue additional endorsements in areas such as English as a Second Language (ESL), Bilingual Education and Middle School (6-8), through additional coursework and Praxis exams.
