Kean University Opens New Campus Restaurants

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 7, 2016

UNION, N.J. – Kean University ushers in the new academic year with the opening of four new eateries, open to the public, on its Union campus: Smashburger, Auntie Anne's,Outtakes and Au Bon Pain. These additions complement Kean’s existing campus dining spots, including the newly opened farm-to-table Terra Momo restaurant Enoteca Ursino, Jersey Mike’s and Starbucks, to broaden the options for the campus community and create new venues to dine, socialize and study across the campus.

“From fast food to farm-fresh cuisine, Kean’s new dining options are offering something for everyone. Smashburger’s burgers and shakes, Auntie Anne’s soft pretzels, Au Bon Pain’s café-style pick-me-ups and Outtake’s grab-and-go items will enrich the Miron Student Center––the heart of the campus––and make it an even more popular hang-out,” said Kerrin Lyles, director of operations for the Miron Student Center.

Ashley Buchanan, a senior Psychology and Psychiatric Rehabilitation major from Bayonne, said the new eateries “will definitely keep students on campus” because there are more places for students to pick up food and bring it to a convenient location to eat, study or hang out with friends.

While everyone on campus is abuzz about the new dining options, students are especially proud of their role in bringing some of their favorite food choices to campus.

“When prospective students tour our university, they ask about the food,” said Emily M. Cubilete, executive president of Student Government at Kean. “These new eateries are simply great and will go a long way to facilitate student interaction and nurture relationships.”

David Paul, a senior math education major, said, “Opening these new restaurants shows Kean is being innovative, reaching out and listening to students’ voices and opinions.” He added how excited he is about trying Smashburger for the first time and said he plans to order their famous hand-spun Oreo milkshake. “It sounds delicious.”

Smashburger, Outtakes and Auntie Anne's Pretzels at the Miron Student Center and  Au Bon Pain in the New North Avenue Academic Building accept Cougar Dollars as well as other forms of payment, making them open for all to enjoy.
