The Spanish Speaking Program (SSP), established in 1972, provides services for Hispanic/Latino students who are English Language Learners (ELLs).
SSP is committed to opportunity and excellence through access to higher education for ELLs. In this program, students take English as a Second Language (ESL) courses during their first two years of their curriculum while completing general education courses in their native language. These courses allow students to make progress in their studies while they acquire the necessary knowledge of English.
During the junior and senior years, the students continue their academic major studies in English.
Kean's Spanish Speaking Program also offers an array of services aimed at improving academic performance, including:
- Academic advisement
- Seminars, group discussions, focus groups, workshops
- Networking opportunities
- Cultural activities
- Study abroad
- Translation services of institutional documents
- Internships and career services
