Sustainability Science Minor Letter
Summer 2020
Dear Kean Faculty and Students,
I hope you had a wonderful summer.
We would like to bring to your attention that the Sustainability Minor Program is recruiting students for the year 2020 - 2021. Offered through the School of Environmental and Sustainability Science (SESS), the Sustainability Minor program provides an opportunity for Kean students who are interested in socio-ecological problems and would like to find solutions through interdisciplinary study. The program will introduce the concepts, tools, and various issues of sustainability. It will also educate students to utilize knowledge gained to develop practical, interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability problems at local regional and global scales. Students will be trained in classes and in research projects to examine real-world issues, which enhances their ability and skills in problem assessing and solving.
Upon completion of this minor, students will be able to
- Learn basics, principles, and tools in sustainability science;
- Explore the challenges of sustainable development in various industries and business at local and global scales;
- Be aware of environmental policies and laws;
- Comprehend diverse technologies to improve the sustainability of existing industrial and natural systems;
- Be prepared to obtain professional certificates in various sustainability career areas.
With the increasing interest in improving the sustainability of business and societies, a minor in Sustainability Science shows potential employers and graduate schools that you have a strong foundation in your chosen field of study, and you are concerned about the impact people are having on the environment. This Minor is an ideal complement to majors including, but not limited to, Economics, Management, Business, Design, Architecture, Political Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Recreation, Psychology, and Sociology.
If you are interested in this program, please check the program flyer and the program guidesheet. The program requires 15-18 credits hours and consists of an interdisciplinary set of course offerings. If you know any students who might be interested, please help recommend the minor and forward the program information.
