Alternate Route Program Completion 

This page has instructions for alternate route students who have completed their program and are ready to apply for Standard certification through the New Jersey Department of Education.  

The process for converting your CE license to a Standard is completely online and takes place within the NJEdCert portal.   

  1. Your district representative must initiate the conversion process and complete their required steps.   
  2. Once the district has initiated the process, you will be prompted to complete your required actions in NJEdCert, including creating or updating your biographical record.  
  3. Navigate to the "Program Completion" area within NJEdCert to add your Educator Preparation Program (EPP), which automatically triggers the required institutional verification forms.  
  • NOTE: If you are a former New Jersey City University candidate who completed your program before Fall 2026, you can select New Jersey City University as your EPP. 
  1. After your file is sent to us through the system, we will review and process your Verification of Program Completion (VOPC). 

Please allow approximately 2–3 weeks for us to process your VOPC. We appreciate your patience as we carefully review each candidate’s record and complete the required documentation.
