Remote Operations at Kean University

Following state guidance due to extreme weather in areas across New Jersey, Kean University will shift to remote operations at 4:30 p.m. today. 

Classes that begin at 4:30 p.m. or later will be conducted remotely. Employees should leave their offices by 4:30 p.m. and are not expected to work the remainder of the day. 

Only employees essential during weather emergencies should report to campus after 4:30 p.m. Employees with questions about their status should consult their supervisor. 

Keanu’s Kitchen will remain open for residential students until 9 p.m.

School Nursing Certificate

Instructional Track

Program Description

The School of Nursing offers a Graduate Certificate in School Nursing which reflects contemporary School Nursing practice from the Whole School, Whole Community, and Whole Child perspective. Through the integration of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice, students are prepared for excellence and leadership in school nursing practice. The program prepares students to apply for certification with the New Jersey Department of Education.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the University’s admission requirements:

  • Proof of valid NJ RN license
  • Baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Presentation of evidence of having completed the following courses at an accredited four-year institution:
    • NURS 3015 - Health Assessment
    • NURS 4020 - Population Focused Nursing in the Community or NURS*3200 Professional Nursing Practice: HP Community
    • PSY 3110 - Life-Span Developmental Psychology
  • Professional Resume/CV 
  • Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score reports (for applicants whose native language is not English). Exceptions can be made for students who have completed at least 6 credits of college level English courses from a U.S. institution, or who have submitted satisfactory SAT or ACT exam scores.

  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Current Physical Examination
  • NURS 5503 - School Nurse as an Educator
  • NJURS 5511 - School Health Education Practice
  • Membership in National Association of School Nurses https://www.nasn.org/ and NJ State School Nurses Association https://www.njssna.org/
