EOF Application Process
The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) is designed to provide financial assistance and comprehensive support services—including counseling, tutoring, and developmental coursework—to highly motivated students. These students come from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds but exhibit strong potential for academic and personal success.
Candidates for EOF must meet state financial eligibility requirements and demonstrate the capability to succeed but did not demonstrate sufficient academic preparation to gain admission to Kean University under its regular standards of admission or have an educational background indicating the need for enhanced basic skills, additional academic support, or preparation tailored to their intended degree program.
EOF is not a financial entitlement, and space in the program is limited. EOF offers several admission categories to accommodate students with varying circumstances and qualifications. To ensure the best fit, applicants must complete the specific application corresponding to their EOF admission category.
Freshman Admission
Freshmen seeking admission into the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program must complete the Kean University application and indicate their interest in EOF by selecting “EOF Freshman” on the Common Application or the Kean University online application.
For more details on EOF Freshman admission, click here. To learn more about our summer programming opportunities, visit www.kean.edu/eofsummer.
Transfer Admission
Transfer students applying to Kean University and seeking consideration for EOF must complete the Kean University application and indicate their interest by selecting “EOF Transfer” status. This applies to:
-
Students who are or were EOF scholars at their previous institution.
-
Students transferring to Kean University who are interested in joining EOF for the first time.
For additional information, visit www.kean.edu/eoftransfer.
Current Kean Students
Incoming freshmen who did not participate in an EOF Summer Program, as well as currently enrolled Kean University students (up to their junior year), may apply for available spots in the Kean University EOF Program. Applicants must complete the EOF Academic Year application for the year they plan to enroll in EOF for the first time.
For more details and the current application, visit www.kean.edu/eofayapp.
EOF Re-Admit
Previously enrolled Kean EOF students who have stopped out for at least one semester must complete the EOF Academic Year application for the year they plan to return to the program.
For more information and the latest application, visit www.kean.edu/eofayapp.
Graduate Student Admission
The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) graduate program provides financial assistance to a select number of graduate students each year. Interested applicants must meet the state's income eligibility criteria; however, prior EOF participation as an undergraduate is not required.
