2027 EOF Summer Academy

 

EOF Summer Academy Overview – June 27- July 29, 2027*

The Kean University EOF Programs at the Union and Jersey City campuses provide incoming EOF scholars with the opportunity to participate in the EOF Summer Academy. Designed specifically for first-time, full-time college students, the Summer Academy offers a comprehensive introduction to college life while supporting students' academic and personal transition from high school to higher education.

Through the Academic Advancement Track, participants earn three college credits by completing a credit-bearing course aligned with their intended major. In addition, students receive targeted academic support to strengthen foundational skills in writing, reading, and mathematics, helping to prepare them for the academic demands of the fall semester.

Beyond the classroom, Summer Academy participants engage with EOF academic counselors and fellow scholars through a series of workshops, leadership activities, social events, and campus engagement opportunities. These experiences introduce students to the wide range of support services available through both the EOF Program and Kean University while fostering a sense of community and belonging.

The Kean Union EOF Summer Academy is offered as a residential experience, providing students with an immersive college environment. The Kean Jersey City EOF Summer Academy primarily serves commuter students, while also offering limited residential opportunities for participants who qualify.

 

Summer Academy Orientation – Saturday, June 5, 2027 *

Incoming EOF Scholars and their parents will have an opportunity to learn more details and the expectations of the Summer Academy at the on-campus EOF Summer Academy Orientation on Saturday, June 5th. Scholars and parents will participate in information sessions from key Kean University partners ( Financial Aid, Residence Life, Health Services, etc. ). Scholars will meet and engage with their classmates, EOF Counselors, and Summer Residential Counselors. This orientation is specific to the upcoming EOF Summer Academy and mandatory for all Summer Academy participants. The EOF Summer Academy Orientation is mandatory for all Summer Academy participants.

Application Procedure

Space in the EOF program is limited. If you're interested and have not applied to Kean University as of yet, please complete the following steps:

  • Fill out a Kean University undergraduate admissions application. 
  • Ensure you apply for the EOF Program by selecting "EOF (Educational Opportunity Fund)" as the Admission Type on the Common Application or Kean University online application.
  • After submitting your application, you will access the EOF Supplemental Application on the Kean University Application Portal. Complete the EOF Supplemental Application and submit the following documentation* to verify financial eligibility.

 

​​​​​ 1.   Proof of 2027-28 FAFSA Completion 

  • Students must submit the FAFSA or New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application to be eligible for consideration for participation in EOF. The Kean EOF Program will review the information reported on these financial aid applications to determine if applicants are meeting the 2027-28 EOF financial eligibility requirements. Applicants must list Kean University as one of their colleges on the FAFSA form and submit proof of FAFSA of NJ Alternative Application submission. Please provide…
  • Proof of 2027-28 FAFSA completion or New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application
    • Screenshots with the applicant's name visible are acceptable ( see below for an example )
    • Note: Please be sure to list Kean University as one of your college choices

2.  Video Personal Statement

  • Please provide a short ( five minutes max ) video of yourself talking about:
    • Your academic history by academic year ( Freshman year through today )
    • Your future educational and career goals
    • How can EOF assist you in achieving these goals
    • Anything else you want us to know about you (i.e., personal challenges overcome, motivation to earn a degree, sources of inspiration )
      • Note: Please begin by stating your name, current school, and year of graduation

** Independent students must submit alternative documentation to verify eligibility. Questions regarding required documentation should be directed to EOFAdmissions@kean.edu for the Kean Union EOF Program or EOFAdmissionsKJC@kean.edu for the Kean Jersey City EOF Program.

Note: If you have already applied to Kean University but did not select Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) as your admission type when submitting your application, you may still be considered for EOF admission. To request access to the EOF Supplemental Application, please email EOFadmissions@kean.edu for the Kean Union EOF Program or EOFadmissionsKJC@kean.edu for the Kean Jersey City EOF Program.

 

Acceptance to EOF

Please Note: Space in the Kean University EOF Program is limited at both the Union and Jersey City campuses. After submitting the EOF Supplemental Application and all required supporting documentation, the EOF Recruitment Team at your intended campus will review your application materials, including your video submission and financial documentation, to determine eligibility and make admissions decisions.

Additional documentation and/or an interview may be required to assist in the eligibility review process. Official EOF admission offers can only be extended once the applicant's information is available and verified through the HESAA NJFAMS portal.

If any discrepancies are identified between the information reported on the FAFSA and the documentation submitted as part of the EOF application process, applicants will be contacted for clarification and resolution before a final eligibility determination is made.

Students accepted into EOF and invited to participate in the EOF Summer Academy must do the following:

  • Secure your spot with Kean University and the EOF Program
    • Pay your non-refundable tuition deposit to reserve your Kean Class of 2031 spot! Pay by mail or go to www.kean.edu/deposit using your KeanWISE ID and password provided in your acceptance letter. Students accepted to Kean University via the EOF program pay a reduced tuition deposit of $25.
    • Complete the Kean EOF Commitment Form to secure your 2027 EOF Summer Academy spot. This form will be available on your Kean Cougar Application Portal.
  • SIGN UP FOR YOUR COURSE PLACEMENT/PLACEMENT TESTING AND ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT, THEN REGISTER FOR CLASSES
    • Kean University assesses incoming students for placement in their appropriate levels of reading, writing, and math classes for their freshman year.
    • The Kean Center for Advising, Persistence, and Success (CAPS), with the support of EOF Counselors, provides Advisement to incoming Fall 2027 Freshmen Students. Appointment availability will be posted in Spring 2027
    • All EOF Summer Academy participants are expected to complete their class registration before the EOF Summer Academy Orientation.
  • ATTEND EOF SUMMER ACADEMY ORIENTATION – Saturday, June 5, 2027*
    • Parents are invited to attend, hear from, and speak to representatives from Financial Aid, Student Accounting, Health Services, and more!
  • ATTEND THE EOF SUMMER ACADEMY – June 27–July 29, 2027*
