Graduate Admissions FAQs
Kean University highly encourages all applicants to apply online through our online application system. The system allows an applicant to submit their application, application fee, and select supporting materials electronically. All other supporting materials need to be mailed to the Office of Graduate Admissions. We do not accept paper applications.
The Nathan Weiss Graduate College is the umbrella school within Kean University for all graduate-level programs. This includes all doctoral, master's certificates, professional diplomas, and non-degree programs at Kean University. The Nathan Weiss Graduate College is one of the many schools and colleges that comprise Kean University.
We offer admission for most programs during the fall and spring semesters. Please view our Application Deadlines page to see our current application deadlines.
After you have officially submitted your application, you will be able to log back in to your account and within your Supplemental Items Link, you will be able to upload your documents(i.e: Resume/Cv; Licenses, Etc…). You will also be able to send an email to your recommenders requesting letters of recommendation. Once an online application is submitted, all supporting materials should be sent to:

Submission of standardized tests, such as the GRE, GMAT, MAT, or PRAXIS is required for certain programs. It is best to view the individual program page to learn about the unique requirements specific to your prospective program.
Students registering for nine or more credits are considered full-time students at Kean University. Students registering for 1-8 credits are considered part-time students.
Can I apply to more than one graduate program?
We advise you to consider your choices and select only your top choice program before submitting an application. However, if you plan to apply to more than one program, please be advised that you are required submit a complete application for each program including the online application form, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Transcripts need only be submitted once per institution attended.
Do you offer part-time study?
Most of our graduate programs do accommodate part-time students. Please consult the individual program pages to see if the program you are interested in accommodates part-time students.
When are classes offered?
The vast majority of graduate courses are offered in the evening hours, most starting after 4:30pm to accommodate the working student. There are select courses that are offered on Saturday mornings. Please view Kean's online course directory through KeanWise to view the scheduling of your desired course.
Can I take a single class to see if a program is right for me?
Absolutely! We encourage all qualified students to take a graduate course to see if Kean is the right fit academically. Additionally, as a graduate non-matriculated student, you can fulfill prerequisite requirements for other degrees. For more information, please click here.

How accessible is Kean University?
Kean University is located conveniently between the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike. We even have a New Jersey Transit train stop right on campus! Our campus is serviced by a convenient shuttle system (we actually use old-world trollies) so whether you need to be on the East Campus or on our main campus, it is only a short trolly ride away! What is the cost per-credit?

Are there separate charges for out-of-state students?
As we are a state university, we are required to charge separate tuition and fees for New Jersey residents and those students who hold residency in another state. Visit our Tuition & Fees pagefor more information.
Is there any financial aid or scholarships available?
Kean University remains one of the most affordable universities in the nation. Regardless of family income, there are financial resources to assist every student with meeting the cost of attending the University. You can apply for financial aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. How long do most graduate programs take to complete?
Most programs if completed on a full-time basis can be completed in about two years. Some programs do take longer, due to the amount of credits that are required to complete the degree. Depending on how many credits are taken per semester and how many total credits are required for a program truly dictates how long a part-time student would take to complete a degree program.

What is Kean Ocean?
Kean Ocean is the University's newest campus, located conveniently on the grounds of Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey. Several undergraduate and graduate programs are offered at Kean Ocean and can be completely in its entirety at this location. Can I request a deferral to Kean University?
The Nathan Weiss Graduate College recognizes the need for students to defer their acceptance, however, deferrals must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Students who have been accepted into a program that admits for fall AND spring entry terms, may request a deferral for up to one year from the initial entry term. Please note that deferral requests require payment of the non-refundable tuition deposit. If you are seeking to begin for an entry term beyond the one year from the semester you were admitted, you must re-apply to Kean University.
- Students who have been accepted into the following programs; Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, Doctoral in Clinical and School Psychology, School Psychology, Doctoral in Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy must have the approval from the program coordinator. Please note in most case for these programs, deferral requests are not accepted and a new application must be submitted for reconsideration for a future entry term.
- In all instances, a deferral will not be processed without the required non-refundable tuition deposit for their respective program.
