How to Carve Out Time for Research at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs)
A major challenge for faculty with a high teaching load at PUIs is to find time for research. This one-hour webinar will discuss strategies to successfully conduct research that involves students and is competitive for NIH R16 funding. Dr. Spear will briefly describe the goals of the R16 program from an NIH perspective. He will be joined by three well-established faculty who will share their experiences in successfully balanced their research and teaching, as well as mentoring other faculty, followed by ample time for Q&A.
The learning objectives for this session are:
1. How to calculate NIH-Person-months and determining the amount of time needed for research.
2. How upper administration and departmental colleagues can accept/embrace research within the PUI teaching mission.
3. Effective mentoring to support research at PUIs.

We talk about…

- Which grants (1400 and counting) are being terminated, and why?
- What do the eliminations of divisions and rotators mean?
