Winter Weather Announcement

Due to the ongoing winter storm and cleanup operations, all Kean campuses will continue to operate remotely on Tuesday, February 24. 

All classes and activities will be conducted remotely during this time. Employees will also work remotely. Only those employees deemed essential during weather emergencies should report to campus. Employees with questions about their status should consult their supervisor. 

Keanu’s Kitchen will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday to serve residential students. 

Parking across the main campus in Union is currently prohibited. Drivers should keep their vehicles in the Kean Parking Deck while cleanup operations are underway. Vehicles parked elsewhere on campus may be relocated.

Academic Standards & Policy Committee

Purpose: The Academic Standards and Policy Committee recommends new academic policies and revisions to existing academic policies, procedures, and issues of academic quality and cross-college coordination to the Provost. Thus, the domain of this committee also involves matters related to academic standards, including, but not limited to, grading policies, examination policies, academic standards, and policies for student academic progress, academic integrity, and other educational policies implemented by the Registrar's Office.

The committee shall make recommendations to the university senate for its discussion and approval. The Senate shall then forward its recommendations to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Standing Charges:

  1. To review any proposed changes in academic policies or regulations for academic standards and make recommendations regarding these proposals to the University Senate.
  2. To develop new policy and procedural recommendations to enhance the academic standards at Kean University and recommend them to the University Senate.
  3. Act as a clearinghouse for all policies regarding academic standards.
  4. Develop policies for late course add/drop policies and determine best practices for their approval and adjudication. Propose procedures, factors to be considered in adjudication, and appropriate levels of discretion to be exercised by deans, advisors, instructors, and others.
  5. To work cooperatively with the University Curriculum Committee, to review reports from the University Curriculum Committee, and to make policy recommendations to the University Senate on curricular issues that affect academic standards.
  6. To make policy recommendations to the University Senate regarding academic standards involving distance learning, continuing education, external education, and related non-traditional courses to ensure standards are met.
  7. To monitor the impact and effectiveness of implemented policies and make recommendations for revisions to the University Senate, as necessary. Work cooperatively with the Provost Office, SADI, and other units to evaluate the effectiveness of the policies.
  8. To fulfill any specific charges from the University Senate.
  9. To issue a final report to the University Senate at the end of the Academic Year.
