COVID-19 Policies and Procedures
Is housing available for the Fall 2022 semester?
Yes, Kean will be reopening the residence halls at 100% capacity for the 2021-2022 academic year. Two students will be assigned to each double-occupancy bedroom and four students will be assigned per suite, unless otherwise noted.
Will guests be allowed in the residence halls?
Students are permitted to invite outside guests such as commuter students, or family & friends to visit them on campus.
Beginning in Spring 2022, residents will also be permitted to host visitors overnight. Each student is allowed a maximum of 10 overnight guests per semester, and all overnight visitors must be approved by all suitemates. Overnight guest forms can be found in your building's community center.
Each resident can have two (2) guest at one time which can include another Kean resident or non-resident/commuter or non-Kean affiliated guest.
Can I request a roommate and/or suitemates?
Yes! Through your housing portal and on your housing application you can request a specific roommate and suitemates. You must mutually request each other and accept the invitation through your housing portal.
Can I request a single-occupancy room?
Most of our suites consist of two double-occupancy bedrooms (four students per suite with two assigned to each bedroom). Students have the ability to request a single-occupancy room, but requests are not guaranteed to be fulfilled, and students with approved medical accommodations will be prioritized. Additionally, all rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students with medical accommodations are given priority access to single-occupancy bedrooms. If you think you may qualify, please work with the Office of Accessibility Services to determine if you are eligible.
During Room Change Days, students have the option to switch into a single-occupancy room if available.
How will I be notified of my housing assignment and suitemates?
Students who have been assigned housing will receive an automatic email notification once they have been assigned to a building and suite. You can view your roommate and suitemates through your housing portal.
To find your housing assignment and suitemate information, please log into the housing portal at https:///kean.rms-inc.com/page/Keanrss and follow these steps.
- Select ‘Manage Assignments and Changes’.
- Click ‘Select’ under ‘My Assignment’.
- Put in 8/31/2022 as the 'Select a Date' field.
- Click ‘Preview’.
Why was I not assigned to my preferred residence hall or suite?
The Office of Residential Student Services does its best to accommodate all building preferences and roommate requests. Housing assignments are made on a first-come-first basis in correlation with the time of the application and application fee submission. By completing and submitting your housing application and application fee, you certify your understanding that your preferences may not be met and understand that you may be placed in a different hall pending availability.
I am unable to accept or view an invitation to join a housing group. Why?
Please ensure that you and your roommate(s) responses to the gender-inclusive housing question correspond (Yes or No). We also recommend that your residence hall and living-learning community preferences match to alleviate the potential for system error. If you are still experiencing difficulties, please contact the Office of Residential Student Services.
Are housing scholarships available?
Students may qualify for housing scholarships based on financial need. Those interested should contact the Office of Scholarship Services to determine their eligibility.
Out of state students are eligible for an out-of-state housing scholarship. Contact the Office of Admissions and Scholarship Services for more information.
Additional scholarship information and tips to help subsidize your cost of attendance can be found on the Scholarship Services website.
Do I have to pay for laundry?
Laundry costs are included in your room and board costs. Our coinless washers and dryers are located on the first floor of each residence hall. Just bring your detergent or pods and dryer sheets!
Can I have a car on campus?
First-year students are NOT PERMITTED to have their vehicles on campus unless they are approved by the Office of Residential Student Services. To request an exception please submit a parking permit request letter to the Office of Residential Student Services. If you have a job off-campus, please make sure you include a letter from your employer confirming employment.
All vehicles must be registered with the Parking Office via the website https://www.kean.edu/parking.
Is there a minimum GPA required to live on campus?
Students must be in good academic standing to live in the residence halls. Students with a cumulative GPA lower than 2.0 are subject to forfeit housing.
