Advanced Certificate in Bilingual Speech Language Pathology

The Post-Master's Certification option is designed to prepare speech-language pathologists to work  with bilingual children and adolescents. This is a 12-credit program that can be completed in two semesters. Proficiency in a second language is NOT a requirement. Monolingual speakers of English are welcome.

The Post-Master's Certification option is designed to prepare speech-language pathologists to work  with bilingual children and adolescents. This is a 12-credit program that can be completed in two semesters. Proficiency in a second language is NOT a requirement. Monolingual speakers of English are welcome. All courses are accepted professional development activities for ASHA Certification Maintenance Hours (CMH) and you do not need to obtain prior approval from ASHA (https://www.asha.org/certification/FactDef).  Your transcript will serve as documentation of course completion and you will need to keep it for your records and submit that to ASHA, if audited. CMHs are calculated as follows:

CDD 5300: Cultural Diversity (approved as CDD 5300) - prerequisite for 5304/05/06

CDD 5304: Bilingual Language Development (previously approved as CDD 5301) - prerequisite for 5305/06

CDD 5305: Speech Language Communication Disorders in Bilingual Children (previously approved as CDD 5302)  prerequisite for 5306

CDD 5306: Assessment and Intervention in Bilingual Children (previously approved as CDD 5303)

Admission Requirements

  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology
  • Current ASHA certification
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with school-age children and/or adolescents
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Personal statement
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 
  • Professional resume/CV

Program Requirements

  • 12 credits
  • Two years of experience as an ASHA certified SLP with school-age children and/or adolescents

Application Deadlines:

  • Summer: May 15
  • Fall: June 30
  • Spring: December 1
