Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultant Certification
The Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultant Post-Master's Certification program prepares experienced teachers to advance into positions on a Child Study Team and further support diverse learners in their schools.
Program Description
The program's purpose is to train professional Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultants who are ethical and knowledgeable of current practices in the special education field; and who can effectively assess, diagnose, and remediate PK-12 students who stand to benefit from special education and/or related services.
The program’s design follows a cohort model in which specific competencies are presented sequentially integrating the background and experience of the professional entering the program. Students are admitted in the Fall and will follow a sequence of courses as a cohort beginning in the Fall of Year One leading to the culminating Internship experience in a PK-12 school-based setting. This program is offered in a fully remote hybrid modality with synchronous and asynchronous courses. SPED 5422 provides an optional evening residency session to provide hands-on training for clinical evaluation tools used by LDT/Cs.
Successful completion of the program meets the required state standards of the New Jersey Department of Education and leads to standard certification as a Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultant.
