Medical Technology

Medical technology uses science to improve lives.  

A medical technology degree prepares you to have an instrumental career in medicine, whether it’s by identifying medical conditions using sophisticated instruments and techniques; collecting samples and performing tests to analyze body fluids, tissue and other substances; or collaborating with comprehensive medical teams on patient care.

Kean’s medical technology program is affiliated with Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, giving our students access to real-world experience in local medical settings.

Kean medical technology graduates are contributing to medical science in hospitals, clinics, research laboratories, outpatient care centers, physician offices and in academia.

What You Learn

Your coursework will focus on the sciences, math and statistics. You will practice laboratory skills and receive training in a medical setting.

  • Learn hands-on procedures and lab-management techniques
  • Address the theoretical and practical aspects of each of the major laboratory disciplines
  • Train to work with infectious specimens or hazardous materials
  • Sharpen analytical and diagnostic knowledge
  • Prepare for national certification in medical technology, through experiential learning

For required certification, students take the American Society for Clinical Pathology Exam.
