Abdulkadir Haktanir, Ph.D., CSC-NJ, DRCC-NJ, is an associate professor in the department of counselor education at Kean University. Dr. Haktanir has clinical experience in school settings and mental health settings. He worked as a full-time school counselor in a K-12 school in Turkey and as a counselor and coordinator at Necmettin Erbakan University’s counseling center. He has national and international experience in teaching in school counseling and core counseling courses in counselor education programs. Dr. Haktanir is an active scholar with 30 peer-reviewed publications in esteemed journals (e.g., Journal of Counseling and Development, Psychology in the Schools, Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Psychological Trauma: Theor, Research, Practice, and Policy), two book editorships, and five book chapter contributions. He directly contributed to Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association’s latest code of ethics and is recognized as an author. Dr. Haktanir has over 1450 citations in Google Scholar as of May 2026.

In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he received four awards: Exemplary Research and Practice Award- Doctoral Level (2017), an award presented by Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC)- a division of American Counseling Association; and the Most Impactful Scholar in Social Sciences, presented by Necmettin Erbakan University in 2020, 2022, and 2023. Additionally, Dr. Haktanir received a grant from the AARC to for a project focusing on parent-child quality relationship. Currently, he is an associate editor for Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development journal, one of the top counseling journals. Dr. Haktanir’s current research interests focus on four main areas: (a) school counseling, counseling children and adolescents, (b) trauma and crisis counseling, (c) college student mental health, and (d) assessment and evaluation in counseling. 

Dr. Haktanir has chaired several student dissertations and collaborate with master’s and Ph.D. student on multiple research projects. He currently teaches School Counseling, Research Methods in Counseling, Professional Seminar in Counseling, and Quantitate Research and Advance Statistics courses at the master’s and doctoral levels.
