Actor Jeff Daniels, nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway blockbuster To Kill a Mockingbird, delivered a powerful address at the Kean University Undergraduate Commencement on May 23, exhorting the Class of 2019 to help repair a divided nation.

Harwood Arena was bursting with energy and pride recently as the Kean community celebrated seniors who are graduating with honors at the Honors Convocation. More than 900 students will graduate summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude this year.

Kean students passionate about protecting the environment shared their message on campus with a series of Earth Week events, including a cleanup of the Elizabeth River and an Earth Day Fair.

The Kean Dance Marathon raised $54,175 for Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, another record. The marathon has raised more than $230,000 for the hospital since it began in 2014.

The Kean University community prepared for the recent Human Rights Institute (HRI) conference, Hunger: The Politics of Food, with a series of activities to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity in the United States and around the world.

Four new, furry additions were introduced to children in the Kean Child Care and Development Center preschool classes recently, a surprise gift to the youngest Kean cougars.

Seven students spent part of their winter recess in Costa Rica, working at a nesting spot for endangered sea turtles and learning about conservation, sustainability and economic development.

Occupational therapy students from Kean have been making house calls to help make senior citizens safer in their homes and communities, teaching fall prevention, conducting home assessments, and getting the elderly patients out into their communities.

The season of giving has taken hold at Kean University, with Kean students, staff and faculty lending their hands and hearts to help improve the lives of others.
