Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) Admission Requirements
In addition to the University’s admission requirements:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Doctor of Education Supplemental Application (found within the online application)
- Statement of purpose
- Official transcripts of all colleges or universities attended
- 3.0 minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in last degree attained (lower GPAs may be considered based on overall strength of application)
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) scores*
* NOTE: The admission requirement for the standardized test examination is now test-optional. Therefore, if you have taken the GRE or MAT within 5 years of application, you are encouraged to submit your scores. However, if you have not taken the exams, your application will move forward for review by the Admissions Committee. - Professional résumé/CV
- Substantial experience working in education or family-support agencies
- Two letters of recommendation (Note: examples of recommenders may include a superintendent, agency director or current and previous supervisors)

The Doctor of Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) requires the completion of 90 credits beyond a bachelor’s degree. Candidates who already possess a master’s degree in educational administration/leadership or a related field may be eligible for full admission, meaning 36 credits of master’s level courses will be applied towards the Ed.D. The program director will review all candidates’ transcripts and decide which courses will be accepted.
Candidates entering the Ed.D. program are not eligible for certification as principal, supervisor or school business administrator.
- Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score reports (International Students Only)

It is anticipated that candidates will enter the program with a master’s degree with work comparable to that listed below. Up to 36 graduate credits are eligible to be applied towards the doctoral program if they meet the requirements similar to the following master’s level coursework at Kean.
