Sahand Abbasi, Ph.D., NCIDQ, LEED GA is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Kean University’s Michael Graves College and an accomplished designer, educator, and researcher. His work is grounded in human-centered design and focuses on the relationship between the built environment and human health, behavior, and
experience. He remains actively engaged in professional practice and industry collaboration, maintaining a strong connection between academic work and real world design applications.
His research centers on Cognitive Design, Design for Health and Wellbeing, Design for Childhood Development, and Inclusive Design. His work explores how individuals perceive and interact with interior environments, with applications across healthcare, hospitality, and workplace design.
Dr. Abbasi’s teaching emphasizes a studio-based, research-informed approach that integrates design thinking, critical inquiry, and emerging tools and methodologies. He is particularly interested in how these approaches support creativity, analysis, and informed decision-making in the design process.
