Kean University is among five institutions to receive an award from Columbia University and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) for the development of a course addressing climate change through architecture, science and sociology.

Kean University freshman Hailey Seals recently attended the State of the Union address at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Thomas Malinowski. It came nearly two months after her father, a Jersey City police officer, was killed in the line of duty.

Kean researchers have received a grant from the National Science Foundation for a sustainability study to help develop alternative, more sustainable methods of cultivating fresh vegetables for consumers by comparing two water-based growing techniques, aquaponic and hydroponic farming.

Recovery Housing, dedicated sober-living residential housing with counseling and other support services, is now available for students in drug or alcohol abuse recovery. The program is also open to students not in recovery who are committed to a healthy, substance-free lifestyle and to students who commute to Kean and would benefit from its services.

Through a partnership with College Steps, Kean is launching a new program in Fall 2020 in which students with learning disabilities, autism and executive functioning difficulties will receive comprehensive specialized support, including peer mentoring, group seminars and individualized learning plans.

Environmental biology students can now study urban, marine and forest ecosystems across the University’s three campuses in New Jersey - the main campus in Union, Kean Ocean in Toms River and the new Kean Skylands campus in Jefferson. 

A former elementary school teacher who rose to become a leader in higher education, Barbara R. Ridener, Ph.D., is the new dean of Kean's College of Education.

Kean University is heightening its focus on undergraduate research by introducing a new Freshman Research Initiative that will involve students in high-quality research during their first year on campus.
