A new federally certified campus lab that will process COVID-19 test results has opened on Kean's Union campus, building upon an unprecedented partnership with the County of Union in diagnostic testing and critical public health research during the pandemic. The lab will deliver test results in 24 to 48 hours.

Architecture students in Kean University’s Michael Graves College recently won three out of the four top student design awards from the regional chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The group — AIA Newark & Suburban Architects — also awarded silver medals for design to Kean’s Liberty Hall Academic Center and Hynes Hall buildings.

A corps of student volunteers called the Voting Squad is fanning out across Kean University, on campus and remotely, to register students to vote in the upcoming election.

The County of Union will continue to operate its free COVID-19 testing site at Kean University throughout the Fall semester under a first-of-its-kind partnership that will provide testing for the campus community as well as opportunities for research and student employment.

Three history faculty members at Kean have received national recognition and grant support for their scholarly research, bringing academic distinction to the University in the United States and abroad.

Two companies based in Kean University’s STEM Building — MDSeq Inc. and Eton Bioscience New Jersey — are part of global efforts to develop COVID-19 tests and treatments.

From New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania to as far away as Texas, high school students who have been accepted to Kean University are receiving a simultaneous pizza delivery to share with their families as they participate in virtual “Dinner with the Dean” events to learn more about enrollment.

Recovery Housing, dedicated sober-living residential housing with counseling and other support services, is now available for students in drug or alcohol abuse recovery. The program is also open to students not in recovery who are committed to a healthy, substance-free lifestyle and to students who commute to Kean and would benefit from its services. 

Distinguished Professor Robin Landa, who teaches advertising and graphic design at Kean University’s Michael Graves College, says the Super Bowl is a singular national event when millennials and other audiences welcome advertising into their homes and on their smartphones.
